Imagine you had a tool, a tool that would allow you to learn any subject skill or topic in the world. A tool that has been used for thousands of years, and has countless evidence behind the use of it.
Would you use that tool?
Well I know I would, and it is a tool I have been using for months now, to learn and master topics like, cognitive Psychology, the Art of Learning, History, Communication, and Philosophy.
So what is this skill that I am referring to?
Writing.
Specifically writing to learn.
So firstly why is writing, specifically writing essays extremely useful in learning any topic, subject or skill?
Because it taps into the best way to master and learn anything. Testing and active recall.
When you write, you are effectively testing yourself on what you know of right now, as you are trying to recall the information you've learned. And by doing that you strengthen the neural pathways and connections within your brain of the topic you've learned.
So then how do we actually do it?
Firstly we actually want to learn and gather the information from somewhere.
So let's say I'm reading the book Ultra learning by Scott Young.
After reading the chapter on Meta learning, and underlining the keywords in the chapter and key phrases, I will put the book down, and recall everything I've learned in that chapter.
Effectively summarising the chapter in my own words.
By doing that I've just been able to recall parts of the chapter, and I have also tested myself on what I know of right now.
And if I happen to forget a certain part, I can go back into the book and review what I don't know.
And that's how you can learn and master any topic through the Art of Writing Essays.
By starting small, and eventually increasing the length of your essays, you will be able to master a topic, and explain it to anyone in no time.
And through that you will be able to master any topic, skill and subject.
The Art of Writing.
