What is the number one mechanism to progress towards mastery? How do we become knowledgeable in so many aspects of life, that we are known for them? How do we become a Master at our craft?
The answer lies in Deliberate Practice.
Focused Work on a particular task.
But it's more than that, it's not just focused work. It's deliberate practice on a particular aspect of your current skill level at said skill or goal you are working towards.
This means learning the basics, building projects to identify your current skill level, gather feedback on what you need to improve on, drilling and training your weaknesses, and doing it over and over and over again.
Every Master at their Craft, from Newton to Jung has done deliberate practice.
They set aside focused time, they learned the basics, the built and tested their skills, they honed their weaknesses, they got feedback from others, no matter how difficult it may be, and most importantly,
They did it consistently for years and years.
If your goal is to become a Master, a Polymathic Master, not just a jack of all trades, a Master of them.
Deliberate Practice and the Formula of
- Setting aside focused time
- Learning the basics
- Testing yourself
- Gather feedback on your strengths and weaknesses
- Drill and work on your weaknesses
- And doing it consistently, for months and years
Is how you'll become a Master at any field you set your mind to.
